It's important for Credit Unions to seek out new and better ways to engage with members, especially now that fewer and fewer people are visiting branches in person.

Facebook is a great place to reach out to your members on a daily basis and is a platform they are already using. These interactions help build relationships and trust with members, and to remain top of mind as they go about their daily lives, which is essential to better grow your CU's share of a member's wallet.

Here is how you can use Facebook marketing to reach and engage credit union members...

    1) Start off by uploading your member list into Facebook and create a custom audience

To create a custom audience of your current members, you will need to upload a CSV email list to Facebook. The more fields you add to the sheet the more matches you will make, ex. First Name, Last Name, Zip, Phone Number, etc.

Once this audience is finished processing you can target your members in their Facebook news feed.

    2) Post content your members will find entertaining or interesting

If your credit union has a blog (which it should!) find an interesting article to share or an eye-catching photo, even if it is not finance related. Make sure whatever it is, you add insight or ask questions. You don't want to just share content, you want to engage with your followers and get them talking!

When your members interact with and share your content, THEIR friends and family see it on Facebook too. This builds brand awareness and strengthens your relationship with your community.

    3) Get your members involved!

Host fun contests on your Facebook page and even in your branch! We have had a lot of success with Facebook only contests but one of our clients recently set up a photo booth in their branch and encouraged people to enter their Facebook contest to win a prize.

The rules were simple, pick out fun props and take the silliest picture! At the end of the day we had 27 amazing photos and uploaded them all to Facebook. We asked our followers to "like" their favorites. The person with the most "likes" won a $25 gift card... Engagement was through the roof!

After 7 days, the results are in:

    Total Reach: 6,998

    Total Reactions/Comments/Shares: 313

    Total Clicks: 1,574

Not only was this fun for members, but it grew awareness online! Sounds like a win-win to me.
